She almost became Alana Elise Mahealani Auna but we (I) kept forgetting the first name. We took it as a sign. After a grueling night of pitocin, pain, epidural, she entered the world quickly. I gasped as I saw the blueness of her skin and realized she wasn't breathing. They wisked her away and our hearts froze.
After a breathless, eternal minute, she cried! We were overjoyed and relieved. She had seizures that first day and had to spend her 1st week in the NICU. However, she recovered and never had another one since.
She was the most beautiful little person I had ever seen and our lives have been changed for good! I can't imagine life without "my Elise," as Elijah affectionately calls her. I shall write more of her virtues later.
Day 1, less than five hours old. Isn't she lovely? : ) As I write, I hear that song playing over and over in my head.
One year old in Chevy Chase, MD amongst the Cherry Blossoms in Livingston Park.
Two years in Disney World - Orlando, FL.
Three years old in Ellicot City MD in the fall at a farm wtih Auna cousins.

oh my goodness Jackie! Look at her! She is prettier and prettier every time you do a post. I can not believe how long her hair is! Happy Birthday to sweet Elise. We sure do miss you out here! A few of us have mentioned how we miss your blogging! But we know you must be so busy. We love you so much and please know that you are missed dearly.

Elise, the world is better because you are in it- you sweet little girl! I can't believe how time just flies by. I remember when you were in your mommy's tummy and I was just in awe of how great a mommy she was going to be and how you were already blessing the Aunas. I am happy to know you and hope to see you again soon! Happy birthday! (Jackie- your kids are world travelers!)

Happy Belated Birthday Elise! I'm so glad that I was able to see Elise as a little baby in Laie and then a year and a half ago here in Puyallup, WA! Lots of love to you all! PS I think she looks a lot like Aaron! =) PSS I saw Gordon or Edward I think his name is Aaron's friend from Gig Harbor that we met up with when you came here to WA that one time at a Stk. Service project. He said he's flying to Kona to see you! How fun! Miss you!
Let me clarify, I ran into Aaron's friend from BYUH this past weekend at a Stk. Service project. He must be in the single's ward in my stake that's right. I didn't realize we were in the same stake. Hope you guys are having fun altogether. =)
