Mt. Vernon & Washington's Eyes

This is a snapshot of a scene in "National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets." If you look close you can see the veranda of the Washinton's mansion on the Mt. Vernon Estate. I liked the movie, it made me laugh but I still think the first one was more interesting. I guess for the end of this month and part of Feb., you can visit the estate and they will allow visitors downstairs where a pivotal part of this scene was filmed. Click here for more info. Sounds fun!
We wondered aloud if we'd find any secret passageways, but we of course we didn't. We were lucky enough to catch the end of the holdiday tours. We got to tour of the third floor where Martha Washinton spent the last two years of her life after her husband passed away suddenly. She couldn't bear to stay in the same room that they shared so she moved upstairs.

We also got a lovely snack in celebration of the 12 days of Christmas. There was a white tent set up on the grounds serving ginger cookies and hot apple cidar. Yum! I guess they were also serving a famous recipe that Martha Washington made during the holidays: Hedgehog cake. We missed that one though!

This is a concave carving of George Washington in a wall - it's really interesting because his eyes follow you no matter where you are in the room, it's kind of eerie in a way. Cool, but eerie. It's probably more impressive in person because it's pretty large.

We loved touring the gardens, mansion, grounds and learned so much from the museum exhibits! We'd definately go again sometime.

That is such a good video of the George Washington statue thing. We love looking at that every time we go. I also did not know that part of National Treasure 2 was filmed there. I guess we'll have to go see that movie. Fun stuff./
