Pani Popo & Butter Mochi

We met Dana and Tua at the Stake Center and I just had this feeling, "They're local!" (From Hawaii that is.) Turns out that they knew some of our Hawaiian friends, Sheena and Mat. Dana is Navajo and her husband, Tua, is Samoan and Caucasian. They definitely have ties to the Islands. Such a cute family, as you can see.

They've watched our kids and at times, I get to watch they're kids: Nizhoni, Iosefa (Sefa), and Tenei (Nei Nei). They are so fun! The last couple of times Dana brought over some delicious island treats! Click on the image for a recipe. : ) Thanks Dana, for bringing home to us out here in the east! Everything was gone with in a couple of days.

This is Pani Popo, a Samoan dessert, which literally means buns in coconut milk.
This is Butter mochi, a faintly sweet rice cake infused with butter and coconut milk. "Mochi" comes from Japan, but there are variations across Asia and the Pacific.

Jackie,
I just have to comment that you have an amazing ability to draw people to you. Everytime I read a blog about a friend of yours... I think... how does she have so many friends... but then I think... of course... it's Jackie. What goes around comes around and you are such a good friend... it only makes sense that you would be surrounded by so many friends. Thanks for the recipes as well.
